CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSES OFFERED IN SWEDEN

Silicon Valley-based NGO introduces its innovative copyright licenses in Sweden

San Francisco, CA, USA and Berlin, GERMANY — November 30, 2005 — Creative Commons, a nonprofit dedicated to building a body of creative work free to share and build upon, today unveils a localized version of its innovative licensing system in Sweden.

Creative Commons copyright licenses are available free of charge from the group’s website (http://creativecommons.org). The licenses allow authors and artists to mark their works as free to copy or transform under certain conditions—to declare “some rights reserved,” in contrast to the traditional “all rights reserved”—thereby enabling others to access a growing pool of raw materials with minimal legal friction.

Staff at Creative Commons’ offices in San Francisco and Berlin worked with Project Lead Mathias Klang and Karl Jonsson of the Creative Commons Sweden team to adapt the standardized licenses to Swedish law. Creative Commons Sweden is hosted and supported by the IT University of the University of Göteborg.
Today the Swedish versions of Creative Commons licenses are being launched and will be available at http://creativecommons.org/ worldwide/se.

As a first official use of the Swedish Creative Commons licenses, the Swedish band Auto-Auto will be releasing their new EP “Totem” on December 13, 2005 under a Creative Commons license. “Totem” will contain five tracks and will be available for download at http:// www.auto-auto.se/. Together with the release, the record company and Internet community Substream are making a remix-kit freely available and will be announcing a competition for the best remix of “Totem.”

Dagens Nyheter rapporterar att Högsta domstolen friar pingstpastor Åke Green från åtalet om hets mot folkgrupp . HD konstaterar, enligt DN, att Green visserligen brutit mot lagen men att en fällande dom ändå inte skulle hålla i Europadomstolen.

Jag har inte följt fallet och borde således inte uttalla mig. Men hade vi verkligen kunnat hävda att vi har yttrandefrihet och religionsfrihet i Sverige om han fällts?

OK, Mathias kunde inte hålla sig längre. De svenska Creative Commons-licenserna släpps officiellt den 30:e november. De har dock egentligen varit “live” sedan i går kväll. När man går in på CreativeCommons.org för att välja licens kan man nu även välja Sverige som jurisdiktion.

Denna blogg använder, sedan i går kväll, en svensk licens.

At the U.N. World Summit on the Information Society Richard Stallman was held by U.N. Security for wrapping his RFID-equipped badge in aluminum foil, according to Bruce Perens.

Stallman, who opposes RFID because of the technology’s potential for privacy invasions, objected to wearing the badge because it could track him as he moved around at the summit. – InformationWeek

Computer Sweden rapporterar att Datainspektionen överklagar tillståndet för en gymnasieskola i Uddevalla att använda fingeravtrycksläsare i skolmatsalen till Regeringsrätten.

Datainspektionen anser att kommunens behov av biometrisk identifiering inte väger så tungt jämfört med den kränkning av elevernas integritet som det innebär.

Speciellt påpekar Datainspektionen att många upplever att uppgifter som härrör från kroppen är extra känsliga.

NewsForge | Magnatune: We’re not as evil as we could be

I really like Magnatune’s slogan “We are not evil”. This seems like something I really need to read later. Found thru frimedia.se.

newspeak skriver om “5 program jag inte kan vara utan”. Lite småroligt kanske. Att säga att man inte kan vara utan dem är väl lite missvisande. Någon sorts alternativ finns väl för samtliga men här är de fyra som jag använder mest plus lite funderingar om ett femte. Samtliga, utom möjligen nummer 4, skulle egentligen kunna ersättas med något motsvarande program.

1. Mozilla Thunderbird – Inte revolutionerande på något sätt men gör sitt jobb och har en bra extension för GPG-kryptering.
2. Mozilla Firefox – Bästa browsern. Tabs är beroendeframkallande.
3. Akregator – RSS-läsare. Hur skulle man annars hinna med alla bloggar och nyheter?
4. Open SSH – Kanske inte något man tänker på i första hand men jag använder det hela tiden för att säket logga in på datorer som befinner sig någon annan stans än där jag är. Men hjälp av SSH-tunnlar kan man kryptera vilken nätverkstraffik man vill.
5. Något att skriva i . . . OpenOffice.org är bra att ha när man behöver läsa MS Office-dokument eller göra presentationer. Annars skriver jag egentligen mycket i LyX. Det finns inget enskilt program som känns lika självklart som de fyra ovan.

Egentligen förtjänar även Procmail och SpamAssassin att nämnas. De effektiviserar faktisk e-posten mycket mer än Thunderbird, även om jag inte behövt befatta mig med dem sedan jag konfigurerade dem för något år sedan.

Samtliga dessa program är naturligtvis fria.

När man tittar på listan framgår det ganska tydligt att min dator i första hand är ett kommunikationsverktyg. “Före internet” satte jag mig vid datorn när jag behövde skriva en uppsats. Lite senare även om jag behövde söka information. Numera sitter jag framför datorn om jag inte har någon särskild anledning att inte göra det. Lite skrämmande kanske?

A few days ago I noticed that CoCo had a list of where the 10 latest visitors came from (geographically). I though it looked cool and after som clicking I found my way to MapStats. I have now added MapStats to this site and you can see the latest visitors on a map by clicking the blue Mapstats button on the right.

I hope no one feels too exposed by this. If so, please let me know.
